This app has started rolling out to Android and iOS.

Reliance Jio launched its 4G data based service commercially yesterday.

With these apps, Jio can become the largest over-the-top player in India and it has the potential to make inroads into the elite league of Indian app developers with the largest number of users, Cyber Media Research said in a note. Jio will be there along with Hike and Flipkart, which each have about 100 million users, the research firm said.

Jio, through its bouquet of apps and disruptive pricing, has addressed use cases and affordability, Faisal Kawoosa, Principal Analyst Telecoms at CMR, said in a statement.

Amit Fulay, Google’s group manager for communications, said: “Users are reluctant to video call because they don’t know if the other person is on the right network, the right device or it’s a good time to call. We’ve tried to remove all that friction and make it feel like an invitation, not an interruption when someone call’s you.”

“The chances of you having your close friends and family’s phone number is much higher than having a specific account, so using the phone number makes it easier.” , he said, making it clear that you can use Google Duo’s video calling without having a Google account. Although the initial release is restricted to selected markets, the app is all set to launch worldwide in the near future.

India is predicted to top app revenue charts by 2020, with 20.1 billion app downloads. The prediction has been done by popular app data and insights company AppAnnie. If it happens, it would be a 92% increase from 2016.

In the last 2 years, total app download rate and in-app time has doubled up compared to the first quarter of 2014. AppAnnie’s prediction also includes Brazil, Argentine, Mexico, and Indonesia in 2nd , 3nd , 4th and 5th positions respectively. At the same time, app revenues in more mature markets such as Japan, US and Western Europe will still comprise 2/3rd of the total app revenue.

According to the report, by 2020, the global app market will grow to $102million.

In March this year, technology giant Apple had announced it’s first TV reality show. The show, which will be unscripted, is about app developers. It has now been christened as “Planet of the Apps”.
